A normal chat answers when you ask it something. A dot is given a job instead, and keeps working on it between conversations — it has its own machine in the cloud, reads the apps you connect, runs checks on a schedule, and asks before doing anything that matters. OpenAI's own example: an early tester's dot noticed he had forgotten to send an invoice, prepared it, and sent it once he approved.
